Stephan combines hands-on advisory experience across both the public and private sectors, enabling him to effectively bridge government objectives with developer and lender requirements. He has advised governments, utilities, IFIs, and private sponsors on the preparation, structuring, and implementation of PPP and project finance transactions, as well as M&A processes involving energy and water infrastructure assets, with a strong focus on renewable energy.
Prior to working as an independent advisor in 2020, Stephan held senior roles at Fichtner Management Consulting AG, where he focused on global PPP transactions in the energy sector, and at BAM International BV, where he worked on export finance for international infrastructure projects.
His work spans a wide range of geographies, including Africa, Central Asia, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Middle East, and covers multiple renewable energy technologies alongside complex water projects. Stephan’s experience includes financial and commercial structuring, bankability analysis, transaction-oriented financial modelling, tariff and revenue framework design, and advisory support through to financial close. This combination of sectoral depth, geographic reach, and dual public–private perspective underpins his pragmatic, solutions-oriented approach.
Stephan holds a BSc in Economics from Maastricht University and an MSc in International Economics from Erasmus University Rotterdam.
