Ian Cogswell joins the annual Proximo Festive Trends Round-up – Listen Live on 17th December!

Join Portland’s Ian Cogswell for the annual Proximo Festive Trends Round-up on 17th December

What a year 2020 has been.  An unforeseen pandemic, economic collapse, and likely changes to business models for many energy and infrastructure players are just the highlights, if that is the right word.  For sponsors and banks struggling to keep businesses operating smoothly, lockdown will not have meant a slower pace of life.  But the market has continued to absorb transactions (and banks process to waivers!).  In some respects, the world has changed immensely.  In others, life goes on as before.  Some of the greatest challenges of the 21st century – mitigating climate change and ensuring the world’s infrastructure supports continued development – remain.

To try and make sense of the year, and think about where 2020’s events might lead us, Proximo is inviting back its longest-serving regulars, including Portland’s Ian Cogswell, to talk through the last 12 months and ponder where the next 12 months might take us.  Joining the panel alongside Ian will be Tom Nelthorpe, contributing editor of Proximo (moderator); Michael Whalen, managing director at Berkeley Research Group; and Jonathan Yellen of Yellen & Co.

Tune in at 3pm (UK) on Thursday 17th December.  More details can be found at

Ian Cogswell contributes to Siemens Energy’s “Working Back from Net Zero” workshop and the Energy Knect Expert Insight Newsletter

Ian Cogswell contributes to Siemens Energy’s “Working Back from Net Zero” workshop and the 1st Edition of the Energy Knect Expert Insight Newsletter

The Energy Knect Newsletter was launched in October 2020, with Ian Cogswell providing thoughts on the risks on which lenders specifically focus when financing new oil & gas projects that are designed with the transition to net zero emissions in mind.  This followed on from his participation in Siemens Energy’s “Working Back from Net Zero” workshop, where some of the industry’s leading professionals joined together to brainstorm ideas of how they can collaborate through the energy transition journey.  The workshop concluded that the lack of a common understanding on the level of financial risk due to technology deployment is disabling the energy transition process. There is a need to enable investors to better value the  economic risk of technology deployment in project development and Ian will now work with the workshop participants on a  white paper addressing how technology risk can be mitigated, which will be shared with energy transition stakeholders.
